Russell Brand – How to: Help and Be Helped at Emmanuel Centre

Russell Brand has transformed from a bewildered addict into a (mostly) present husband and father, he joins us to reveal life lessons we can all take away from his extraordinary journey.
Comedian, podcaster, author, actor, activist and addict: Russell Brand has lived a more volatile life than most of us. He joins the How To: Academy to tell that story in his brilliantly comic and uniquely candid style. In particular, he’ll explore the role that heroes, guides and mentors have played in shaping his life and work — from the wayward oiks he tried to emulate growing up in Essex, through his first days as a junky, to the people he turns to today to help him be a better father.
Helping others and being open to accepting help are trusted routes to happiness. In this talk, Russell will illuminate the process of mentorship.
He says:
“I have mentors in every area of my life: as a comic, a Dad, a recovering drug addict, a spiritual being and as a man who believes that we, as individuals and the great globe itself, are works in progress, and that through a chain of mentorship we can improve individually and globally, together… One of the unexpected advantages that my drug addiction granted is that the process of Recovery that I practice includes a mentorship tradition. I will encourage you to find mentors of your own and explain how you may better use the ones you already have. Furthermore I will tell you about my experiences mentoring others and how invaluable that has been on my ongoing journey to self-acceptance.”
Russell Brand is a comedian, writer and addict. His last book Recovery: Freedom from our Addictions was a Sunday Times #1 bestseller, a top ten New York Times bestseller, a top ten Australian bestseller, and one of the most successful audiobooks of 2017. Mentors is Russell’s seventh book. He performs regularly as a comic and actor and is studying for an MA in Religion in Global Politics. He has 2 cats, 2 dogs, a wife, 2 daughters, 10 chickens and 60 thousand bees, in spite of being vegan curious.
Russell Brand – How to: Help and Be Helped at Emmanuel Centre will be held Tuesday 29th January 2019.
