Madonna UK Tour 2019
With over 380 million records sold, Madonna is regarded as the most successful singer in the world – it’s not without reason that she bears the title Queen of Pop. In 2008 Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Madonna Louise Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, as the daughter of an Italian immigrant and a French Canadian who died when Madonna was only five years old. To escape her hateful father, Madonna began taking lessons in singing, music and dancing as a teenager in New York and financed her education by working as a waiter.
In 1982 she managed to sign her first record contract. The third single called “Holiday” from her debut album “Madonna”, which sold almost 10 million copies, reached the international top ten and turned the young Madonna into a superstar. The following three albums reached number one in the charts worldwide and sold more than 20 million copies each.
With the song “Like A Virgin” Madonna landed a number one hit in the USA for the first time in 1984. With provocative outfits and stage shows Madonna polarized the public but enthused especially her younger audience. The singer maintained her status as a pop megastar for over two decades and provided the world with numerous hits like “Like A Prayer”, “Frozen” and “Hung Up”. Eleven studio albums of the pop icon reached the top ten in the USA, seven of them even made it to first place.
Madonna also tried her hand as an actress at an early age. But her first roles in “Shanghai Surprise” and “Who’s That Girl” turned out to be flops. The movies ” A League of Their Own” and “Shadows and Fog” enjoyed great popularity in the cinemas in 1992.
In 2003 Madonna’s first children’s book “The English Roses” was published, which landed at number one of the best-selling books. The singer donated the earnings from the sale of the book and the associated merchandise to a children’s aid organization.
Madonna’s last album “Rebel Heart” was released in 2015 and received consistently positive reviews. A year later, Madonna was named Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women In Music Awards, and in her 10-minute speech she passionately explored topics such as feminism and sexism.
Madonna will come to London on her Madonna UK Tour 2019 Saturday August 3, 2019.
