Launching an Art Gallery: Alma Zevi in conversation with Olivia Paterson
The Business of Art Society is pleased to announce our upcoming talk entitled: Launching an Art Gallery: Alma Zevi in conversation with Olivia Paterson.
After working as an independent curator for a number of years, Alma Zevi founded her eponymous gallery in Venice, in 2016. The gallery’s mission is to provide a dynamic platform for both international emerging and established artists. The gallery is defined by both its artist-driven programme and its active engagement with the artistic community of Venice. It regularly hosts artist residencies where new bodies of work are produced in response to the city’s unique cultural heritage.
Recent exhibitions have included Eduardo Paolozzi: Selected Works 1947-1974, the first presentation of the Scottish-Italian artist Eduardo Paolozzi in Italy since the Venice Biennale of 1960 (2018), and Heidi Bucher, Gordon Matta Clark: FLOORS, an examination of these two seminal artists and their contrasting approaches to imagining architecture (2017). The gallery has also shown artists including James Capper, Heidi Bucher, William N. Copley, Juliana Cerqueira Leite, Gordon Matta-Clark, Daido Moriyama, John Smith and Sofia Stevi. In dialogue with its exhibitions, the gallery hosts regular screenings, poetry readings, book presentations and artist talks, as well as publishing a selection of exhibition catalogues to complement the programme. ALMA ZEVI is delighted to announce an exhibition of Frank Auerbach’s paintings and drawings, which will open to coincide with the Venice Biennale in May 2019.
In 2013 Alma founded an artist residency and project space for young artists in the mountain village of Celerina, Switzerland. This now operates under the umbrella of the gallery.
In January 2019, Alma opened an outpost of the gallery in Mayfair, at the centre of London’s gallery district. This space, which serves as an office and private viewing room further represents both the gallery’s artists and the programme in Venice.
Launching an Art Gallery: Alma Zevi in conversation with Olivia Paterson at The Courtauld Institute of Art will be held Tuesday 19th February 2019.
